Early Draft #1: Behind The Wall, Chapter Two: The Corrupt or The Eaten

Along the east coast once stood a major city, high and mighty over the surrounding area. Formed in the new era after the Nuclear World War, this became one of the largest ports on the face of the earth, the gateway to Americas. It was known as the Eastern Port and home of the industrial leader and corporation that supported the government, Tomorrow. This corporation became the head of the industrial world because it is the only industry in the cold lifeless world.
After everything was demolished in the war, whoever was left alive soon found themselves with a decision to make. They could either return to the corrupt civilization that caused all of the death and mass disturbance, or they could try to survive the cold, ash filled, gray tundra, known as “they country.” Both had their pros and cons, but it really came down to if you wanted to control your own future or have someone do it for you.
Those that chose the country started to live a life of freedom. The ventured out to the wide open land. Roads filled three feet high with what was once the old world. Piles of debris every which way you could look. As People searched for a new beginning they had to sift through all of this to find the smallest of objects that could help them through this torture.
Food was grown in small fields that the old farmers left under the rubbish and debris.  After clearing the land they were hopeful and prayed for growth. The homes that were left standing filled rather quickly, normally with people that had no more family to turn to. But soon the supplies would run low and fights would breakout.
As the new families split apart the food withered away to dust. And since all the animals of the land had either died off or went into hiding; there was only one other option to survive: cannibalism.
Those that were able to turn off their human instinct and turn on the hunter mode of their brains were destined to survive. Many gruesome sights became apparent to those that couldn’t stomach it, and soon they became the prey.
It soon became unsafe to travel in these parts. Anyone that was brave enough to leave their homes avoided the roads altogether. They took trails in the woods and hopefully found the railroads. It was the only safe way to get from point a to point b. The rail road’s were abandoned now, but they still showed up on the maps from the old days.
Although the hunters waited along the tracks, groups of “thinkers” traveled together to welcome in new members, anyone that needed protection they would help.
If the humans decided to live in the city, they were provided jobs, shelter, food, and support from the government. As long as they worked they were welcome to stay within the city lines. Every so often people would go missing; wither they had enough of this life style or they just poofed out of the eye of society.
The government of the newly formed Americas offered everyone safety and comfort. Tomorrow worked alongside them and provided media of all sorts: music, television, movies, electronic books. Paper was no longer used because there were no more factories to make it in.
