I wrote this for my aunt funeral...
A Penny for Your Thoughts
We have called this woman by many names; Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Friend, Love, Strength, Angel…so many names for just one woman, but Penny represented so much to so many people, she touched us all in different ways. A million outlets in one body, a member of society and a member of the angels. As I wish her a farewell I know I will not be alone on my journey, I will be surrounded by warmth and joy, I will be aloud to live life without worry, I will know that I have my own angel watching over me.
For as long as we have known her there has never been a dull moment. And with these moments so rich and full of feeling, we have learned to find peace in our minds, love in our hearts, and harmony in the world. A single moment in time is stretched to the end of eternity, analyzing every second so that we can absorb the persona of a woman so angelic, a woman who loved life and lived in the positive.
While we are being watched in the eyes of the keeper of life, we can all be seen as candles, each glowing ever so beautifully, but Penny seemed to glow brighter everyday, always raising smiles and spirits with compassion, humor, love, and loyalty. She seemed to out glow the rest of us at the best and worst of times. Her flame grew powerful and may have twitched with the wind, but always found its way back to a steady straight burn, even now it still glows as her heart is in each of us.
Penny was a woman of strength, she is now at peace, she is now at rest, watching every single one of us, clearing our ways and lighting our paths. It may seem dim and gray, but the reality is we must be willing to move forward with our lives, a woman of Penny’s level would not wish for us to be saddened, but rather we stay strong. We will not forget her but we must let her go.
I know I was not able to be with her in the end, but she was always in my thoughts. I shall not punish myself because I can find comfort in the fact that I was with her in life, when she was well and joyous. It is crucial that we understand that if we were touched by this blessed woman we became her friend, her partner, her family. My ambition to fall deep in a pit of sorrow was challenged by her spirit, she grabbed me and brought me back to the top of a mountain where I could build higher and farther, I could create and destroy, I could be lost but still find my way with her as my guide.
Penny is now as free as the wild mustangs of the old west; she can roam freely around us and quietly point us in the right direction, a true compass of heart. As she advances into the vast valleys of sunshine I feel that she will look back with a desire to stay with us and continue to be our support, to hold us up when we are falling, to make us smile when we feel hate, to hold us when we cry. She will shine a smile and be delighted to know we are celebrating her life, to know that she had so much of an influence on all of us. She is with the angels she belongs with, that she always belonged with.
With Penny in our hearts we shall never walk alone. The photos in our minds will never evaporate; snapshots of our memories will continue to make us enjoy life. When u are in the office and you start to smile, or you are sitting behind a desk and start to giggle, or even walk with a big grin, people will wonder what’s wrong with you. You can proudly turn to them and say just one simple word, “Penny”
We shall live in her image, We shall live everyday to the fullest. We shall be strong.
Peace, Love, and Harmony
